DESCRIPTION:  This very rare cabinet, with stunning inlaid marquetry, was created by master cabinetmaker, Mathieu Befort, during the 19thCentury in France. A beautiful bronze effigy of Ceres adorns the front door, with important ornamentation of gilded bronzes, patterns on the flanks, multiple ingot molds, and high and low falls.  Spandrels, typical of Belfort’s design style, embellish the angles at the top.  The top is in black Aleppo marble, the exterior has an ebonized finish, and there are two shelves inside the mahogany interior.

This prestigious cabinet carries the mark of the Befort House (BJ, Befort Jeune), the family of referenced master cabinetmakers during the 1800’s in France.
